Harle/Strategy

From Another Eden Wiki

Against opponents who only use elemental damage or non-type magic damage, Harle can often largely or entirely mitigate their damage on her own. By getting to 11 or 12 Power Level stacks and using both Lunar Protection and one of the Anti-(Element) skills available by equipping the appropriate Element, Harle is able to exceed 100% resistance against an element due to how type resistance and element specific resistance stack together.

For example, at 10 stacks, Lunar Protection gives +55% type resistance and Anti-Fire gives 60% fire resistance. This results in 93% fire resistance (60% + 55%x0.6 = 60% + 33% = 93%). At 11 stacks, Lunar Protection gives 57.5% type resistance and Anti-Fire gives 65% fire resistance. 65% + 57.5%x.65 = 65% + 37.375% = 102.375%. At 12 stacks, Lunar Protection gives 60% type resistance and Anti-Fire gives 70% fire resistance. 70% + 60%x0.7 = 70% + 42% = 112%.

The extra percent above 100% don't normally matter, but do come into play if you facing a resistance debuff, as illustrated here on the Damage Formula page.

The simplest way to get to 11 or 12 stacks in turn 1 is by using Lunar Ruin in an AF since it stacks 2 levels on a normal hit and 3 with a critical hit; this is normally preferable to using Lunar Protection to stack Power Levels since Lunar Ruin is not an attack and thus does not help extend the AF.

A strategy that can be applied in combination with Necoco (Another Style) and an elemental zone setter is to have Harle equip the same element as the zone, then have AS Necoco use Scintillant Spirit to change all ally and enemy damage to match the elemental zone. This can be especially useful if the enemy applies significant elemental resistance debuffs -- an enemy that applies a -100% fire debuff gains no benefit from it if you are changing the damage to water, while combining Lunar Protection and Anti-Water would allow you to hit 100% resistance and zero out the damage. However, care must be taken to ensure that the zone is set before AS Necoco uses Scintillant Spirit in a given turn. If an enemy also has priority moves this can be difficult to do outside of an AF.

If an opponent applies significant type or element-specific debuffs but uses physcial type attacks, remember that physical resistance and type resistance are added together against physical elemental damage.
