Shanie/Lore

From Another Eden Wiki

Profile[edit]

Appearance[edit]

Shanie is a young woman that wears armored boots and gloves with a white tunic and a long golden sash. She has long, flowing blonde hair with a headband. She is capable of summoning and wielding a magic sword.

Personality[edit]

Shanie is a nomad with no permanent home. She effortlessly wields a magic sword and is open and friendly. However, she is also cautious about the men she meets, because her beautiful appearance -- and a unremovable curse -- attracts obsession to varying degrees.

Story[edit]

Quest 1: Being This Captivating is a Curse...[edit]

At Palsifal Palace, Aldo and Shanie run into Ratchett. While they are talking, a young man walks in to see Ratchett about his upcoming marriage rites. Upon laying eyes on Shanie, the man immediately falls in love and proposes to her. His fiancee walks in, and he breaks up with her on the spot. Shanie tells Ratchett to get the man out of the room and reveals to them in private her situation: when she was a child, a mage placed a love curse on her, and the men that come around her are affected by varying degrees. The curse takes the form of a hexing sigil on the back of her neck. If a man were to look at it directly, they would be permanently enthralled.

Shanie tells the distraught woman that her husband will return to normal in time. But because their wedding is around the corner, they have to undo the effects of the curse as soon as possible. Ratchett, Aldo and Shanie work together on a solution by helping her arrange a bouquet, recreating the moment they fell in love.

While gathering flowers, Shanie recalls the story of how the mage discovered her as a child. As an orphan with no family, she grew attached to another child, who later shunned her. As she cried, a mage offered the naive child the chance to make the boy like her again, and she took it. Ever since then, she has lived life on the road, unable to stay in one place for too long. She wonders why Aldo hasn't been affected by her curse.

The husband and wife put the flowers together and he sees the error of his ways. Shanie gets sentimental about their childhood love story, and reveals her knowledge of the bouquet's symbolism. Ratchett is unable to remove such a powerful curse, but Aldo swears to find a way.

Quest 2: Do Robots Fall in Love?[edit]

In Elzion, Shanie and Aldo are approached by three men who begin fighting over Shanie. She recognizes them as a group of friends that were at the tavern last night, and she is dismayed that her curse has caused their in-fighting. The two are forced to flee as the men get aggressive.

As they are on the run, they are caught by a different member of the group: first an ambush at a hotel, then a trap at Route 99, and finally a stun gun attempt while on their way to Elzion Airport. At the airport, the three men reveal they planted a tracker on Shanie and that's why they keep catching up to them. Aldo says enough is enough and confronts the men, who then summon a mech to fight him. Aldo defeats it handily, and the explosion knocks out the men. Aldo turns them in to the Administrator.

Afterwards, Shanie questions why Aldo is so nice and helfpul to her. Aldo says it's because they're friends, but Shanie harbors some doubts.

Quest 3: Ah Yes, True Love[edit]

Shanie asks Ratchett why Aldo is seemingly unaffected by her curse. Ratchett is able to deduce that Aldo is affected in some form, but that it's only a matter of time until it truly sets in. Shanie has been worried that Aldo is only good to her because of the curse, but Aldo insists it isn't. She is unable to trust this, and says she has to leave for his own good. She says Aldo's mission is too important to be weighed down by the influence of Shanie's hex.

Aldo begs Ratchett for a way to break the curse. Ratchett gives him a gem, which has a powerful shapeshifting monster within it. She believes that if Aldo breaks it, unleashes the monster and defeats it, the curse will be broken. Aldo does so and chases the monster across the land as it takes on the form of different monsters. At last, it takes on one final form: Shanie herself.

Both Shanies insist they are the real one to Aldo. Aldo says the only way he can tell is if he looks at the sigil on the back of her neck, believing that a monster would not be able to recreate it. One Shanie refuses, saying he'll be enchanted forever. The other Shanie will allow it, but only briefly. The other Shanie takes out her sword to stop them.

Aldo strikes down the Shanie that volunteered to show her sigil. He knew that the real Shanie would never let that happen, as the fate of the world would be at risk. The monster gets up and fights them one last time. Although it is defeated, it escapes for good after the battle. Because of this, Shanie realizes that Aldo truly is unaffected by her curse.

Back at Ratchett's, they inspect her sigil. They ask Aldo for some privacy and find that even though the monster was not killed, the curse was broken because they inverted the spell's effects: Shanie found true love. She had spent her entire life questioning and fearing the intentions of every man she met, but because she finally trusts Aldo sincerity, she has fallen in love and she is free.

Shanie refuses to let Ratchett tell Aldo the whole story, claiming it was the result of "true luck." Ultimately, the end of the curse makes little difference to Shanie, as random men around Palsifal still proclaim their love for her.

AS Quest: Just Wanna Look Good For You[edit]

At Palsifal Palace, Shanie asks Aldo for some privacy while she goes to talk to Ratchett. Ratchett reprimands Shanie for making no progress in her relationship with Aldo. She tells her to ask him out on a date and dress to impress. She decides to wear her combat-ready Brunhild armor, a set she stumbled upon in her travels that seems to augment her magic blade powers.

When she asks Aldo out on a date, she panics and asks him on a "day trip" instead. Aldo is oblivious the whole time, until they go to Ratle to see a popular fortune teller. The mysterious fortune teller deduces that Shanie has a crush on Aldo, and offers to make Aldo fall in love with her. Shanie is intrigued but at the last second recognizes the fortune teller as the mage that cursed her as a child.

The mage realizes he cursed her before and Aldo comes to her rescue. Seeing them both, he realizes that the curse was broken because Shanie found true love in him, but cannot tell him. He laughs at the opportunity unfolding before him, and curses Aldo. Now, Shanie will have to help Aldo find his true love to free him. They decide to follow the mage's trail using the power of Shanie's new armor.

They find the mage again, and he reveals that he gets great pleasure from breaking up couples because he is envious of them. They defeat him in battle, but the mage casts an even more powerful curse on Aldo. Shanie is forced to tell him how she truly feels in order to see if Aldo feels the same way, thereby breaking his curse.

As she is about to confess her love, a bunch of cats swarm Aldo. The mage panics because he hates cats. Aldo and Shanie tell him to remove the curse to call off the cats, and he does so. Once free of the cats, the mage tries to curse Aldo once again, but Shanie uses her magic sword to rebound the curse back at him with one addition -- it attracts cats. The mage is forced to flee, forever swarmed by the animals he hates.

Aldo and Shanie finish their daytrip at the Corinda Plains, the site where her curse was finally broken. She tells Aldo that she felt like that was the end of a story in her life, and that she could create a new one. But Aldo's story is still on-going. Shanie resolves to keep her feelings to herself, so as not to burden him and jeopardize his mission. She asks Aldo to ask her about it when their adventure has come to an end.

Mythos: Song of Sword and Wings of Lost Paradise[edit]

While looking for a way into Paradise, Aldo learns that the winged beings likely used a suit of armor as a key to gain access for the sake of efficiency. Upon hearing that such a relic was given away by a collector who was taken aback by a young woman's beauty, Aldo realizes that they are talking about Shanie. Sure enough, after re-connecting with Shanie, it is learned that her Another Style armor is in fact from the civilization of Winged People.

Gameplay[edit]

Shanie is a water elemental physical attacker that is capable of supporting and augmenting water-type damage. She is primarily used for single target damage.
