Story[edit]

Character Quest 1[edit]

Nightmare Inn

There’s a rumor that anyone who stays in the Ratle Inn will have a nightmare. Raven rarely cares for quests, but seems interested in this one.

Aldo and Raven hear a scream coming from the tavern and check it out, despite Raven’s reluctance. They find a drunk man who has just had a vivid nightmare that seemed real. Aldo wonders if it was something he ate, but the man responds that everyone who has stayed at the inn has been getting nightmares as well. Raven grows curious and goes to interview the innkeeper.

Although the innkeeper initially tries to lie, he eventually admits that everyone who stays in a certain room is haunted thereafter with terrible dreams. Aldo and Raven spend the night in the room for free and they both have nightmares, the former about not being able to save his sister Feinne from a huge monster and the latter about being attacked by a strange black shadow on top of a mountain, which is a place he knew of before he lost his memories.

Raven speculates that there must be a curse and finds a spirit within a pot. They defeat it, lifting the curse, and the innkeeper reveals that he bought the pot from a traveling merchant for a price that was too good to be true.

Character Quest 2[edit]

Lover's Whereabouts

A woman in Sarupa is looking for her soulmate. Her partner has gone on a dangerous journey to study monsters.

A lady in Sarupa asks Aldo and Raven if they have seen a man doing research on monsters. Raven doesn’t want to help her, but Aldo does. The lady explains that the man is her lover, but he hasn’t sent her a letter in weeks. Raven claims that he definitely died, but becomes interested when the lady says that her lover’s last letter mentions the Dark Vortex.

Raven figures out that the man was in Acteul, so Raven and Aldo head there and ask a sentinel about a monster researcher. They learn that he went into the Man-Eating Marsh and search for him there. Unfortunately, they only find a note of his revealing that the Dark Vortex has the power to drive monsters and spirits into a berserk state.

They keep looking for the man and are attacked by zombies. After the fight, Raven collects the last memo from one of them. It has the same handwriting as the other note, which means that the lady’s lover was actually one of the zombies they just defeated.

They return to the lady, Riza, and give her his last love letter to her. She is sad, but tearfully thanks them for bringing her his last words. Raven then reveals that he is a necromancer whose dark magic can allow him to communicate with the dead. He thus lets a grateful Riza bid her farewell to her lover Jack.

Aldo is happy about Raven’s actions, but he claims that it was just a passing whim and that he won’t make a habit out of it, as he doesn’t want to become a “blasted fool” just like Aldo.
