Story[edit]

Character Quest 1[edit]

Light Behind the Eyes

The Red Clad Flamemancer observes a synth human on the ruined road. A hunter appears and asks him for help taking down a certain Synth…

Dewey effortlessly defeats a synth human in Route 99, having been mistaken for the owner of a Search Bit that had just attacked the synth human. A young hunter approaches Dewey, having witnessed his skills, and asks him to join him on a job hunting a particularly dangerous synth human who has driven insane all of the hunters who have tried confronting him. The hunter admits to being the sole survivor of a team that tried to destroy it and Dewey, concerned about his powers, agrees to help him.

The pair heads to the Industrial Ruins, where the young man remains even more impressed with Dewey’s skills when he quickly defeats another synth human. He further admits to not being really strong, but he feels the has to stop the dangerous synth human. He then notices the defeated synth human sending a rescue signal to their target and they go further into the ruins.

Dewey eliminates another synth human, taking his spare gun to give it to the hunter, who is reluctant to take it.

When they finally find the synth human that they were looking for, the hunter tells Dewey to stand back and that he has a plan, but Dewey tells him that he has defused the bomb he wanted to use as a suicide bomb when he handed him the looted gun. Dewey is angry that the man tried to use him as a pawn and he explains that the reason he is still alive is because he actually abandoned his team and wants to make it up to them with his life. Dewey tells him that his sacrifice would be meaningless and that “all a guilty man can do is carry the burden of his actions with him for the rest of his life.”

Their talk is interrupted by the Augmented Synth using his powers on the young man and Dewey is forced to fight. He defeats the Synth and the hunter regains consciousness. Dewey explains that the Synth was using a special electro-magnetic wave to stimulate psychological trauma, which didn’t work on him, because his nightmare is always with him. After he leaves, the curious hunter checks the Augmented Synth’s data to take a peek into Dewey’s nightmare and remains shocked by what he sees.

The hunter finds Dewey alone at Route 99 and asks him about his horrific nightmare and how he can keep fighting after having been through hell. He simply states that he cannot choose death, because he also has sins he can never atone for.

Character Quest 2[edit]

Endless Redemption

The Red Clad Flamemancer meets a boy who is thinking about stealing something. While talking, he feels the eyes of someone judging him…

Dewey calls a boy out for considering to steal a limited edition Dream Magic card that another boy lost in Elzion, telling him that he will regret it. When the boy runs away, Dewey spots a surveillance drone watching him and confronts it. It tells him to go to Xeno-Domain or his master, Professor Zekir, will die. He destroys the drone out of anger, but heads there anyways.

He meets a synth human with a hooded figure that is supposed to be the Professor. He quickly defeats the synth human along with the Search Bits that ambush him, and figures out that the hooded figure isn’t Zekir, but just a researcher, who claims that he was just told to act as him to lure him there. Dewey, having seemingly met him in the past, decides not to kill him and forces information out of him. He explains that the victims of the Green Clad Dewey’s attack on KMS City are trying to get rid off him because they feel he is dangerous (they believe that he is the one who attacked the city) and reveals that their leader is in one of labs in the research sector, after taking pills for his migraine.

On their way, the researcher tells Dewey that, although there are evil scientists, he is trying to make a better world, and Dewey says that his counterpart from his own Time Layer said the same thing, but refuses to give further explanations. They enter the lab where the leader is supposedly in, but it is empty. The researcher finds a log with the leader’s real location and Dewey figures out that it is a trap, but still intends to go further in. When the researcher asks him why he is still going, Dewey explains that he can’t let Zekir die, because he is the embodiment of his sin. As the researcher tells him that he is strange, he gets another migraine, and Dewey advices him not to take any more pills, but he doesn’t listen.

Further in, they find the leader’s corpse. Dewey suggests that it was the researcher who killed him: the researcher did it after an argument about the development of the Limbic Pill, a pill used to block past traumas, but forgot about it with the use of the pill and tried to set Dewey up instead. Remembering everything and not recognizing himself anymore, he tries to commit suicide, but Dewey stops him with his fire gun, not wanting to let the same person die in front of him again. His fire, however, activates the terminal core’s defense system, and he has to fight a Synth Drone.

The fight causes the radiator system to malfunction and rise the temperature above human limits. As the researcher doesn’t want to escape, Dewey collapses as well, ready to die. In a state of unconsciousness, he sees all of the researchers dead because of him calling him to join them, but another Red Clad Dewey doesn’t let him die, telling him that he must suffer forever.

Dewey stands up and carries the researcher out, saving both of their lives. Asked about the researcher’s counterpart, Dewey tells him that he was a good man who regretted that the pill he helped develop was used to turn children into soldiers. When Dewey had gone to kill him, he smiled sadly and killed himself. The researcher then decides to turn himself in.

Back in Elzion, Dewey encounters the boy who was about to steal the card with Aldo. He explains that Aldo helped him find the card’s owner and gave it back. The boy notices how Dewey doesn’t want people to know that he did a good thing. Dewey explains that he doesn’t deserve good things like gratitude, but Aldo tells tells him that the sins he committed in the past shouldn’t prevent the things he does in the present from being appreciated. The boy then thanks Dewey, who doesn’t prevent him from doing so, but also doesn’t want to listen to him.

Character Quest 3[edit]

You're My Hero

Dewey is walking alone through the city observing the different Time Layer. Then there is a dark shadow creeping at his feet…

As Dewey is noticing how carefree everyone is in the IDA Garden, even a cat that approaches him, he runs into the other Dewey and a girl, who are looking for the cat that just tried to play with him: Mimi. Since the girl has to go visit her mom at the hospital, she and Dewey basically force Red Clad Dewey to help look for Mimi, much to his annoyance.

The two Deweys ask around while clashing due to their extremely different personalities. They find an IDA teacher playing with a cat app who invites them for trial classes at IDA School; Sharkie approaches Red Clad Dewey to ask him where he got his outfit, making Dewey jealous; a pair of female IDA students tells them that some Guard Drones are flying by. They then overhear some students talking about Guard Drones going mad outside ElziMed and mistaking a cat for an enemy.

They thus rush to save Mimi and successfully fend the Guard Drones off despite their differences, even combining their guns together to win the fight. A researcher is surprised, yet thankful that they were able to destroy the drones and mistakes their bickering for a brotherly bond, much to both of their displeasure.

They bring Mimi back to her owner and she decides to gift her future baby brother the name of Dewey, like “the heroes who came to save Mimi!”

Before Red Clad Dewey can leave, Dewey asks him to be friends, but he rejects the offer, although he does seem to secretly care about his counterpart, as they start bickering again.
