Story[edit]

Character Quest 1[edit]

The Paladin Anabel

Anabel believes that if she were only a little stronger she could have properly defended the castle. A report of a sudden attack by the last few monsters is delivered to Anabel.

In Miglance Castle, Anabel tells Aldo she feels that she could have prevented the castle from falling had she been stronger. She adds that her hometown was destroyed by beasts, and she was the sole survivor. As she is reminiscing, a soldier arrives to report that a beast detachment is moving in the Karek Swampland ready to attack. While the soldier goes to the battlefield at Serena Coast, Anabel accepts Aldo’s offer to accompany her to consult with King Miglance, who is temporarily staying at Unigan Inn.

King Miglance orders Anabel to go help in the battlefield at Serena Coast. However, after hearing the new information, he tells her and Aldo to go to Karek Swampland, but to also be careful.

After defeating the detachment, Anabel proceeds to pursue them despite Aldo’s calls for caution.

As Aldo and Anabel arrive at Serena Coast, they realize that the information about the beast detachment was leaked on purpose to set a trap for Anabel, who admits to have been suspicious of the information that not even King Miglance knew about from the start. She thus slays all of her enemies with her Holy Blade, the embodiment of Miglance’s people’s hopes and prayers that Paladins can wield.

Reporting back to King Miglance, Anabel states that she doesn’t need any thanks, as she’s fighting to realize the world that the First Paladin Anna dreamt of: a world without conflict.

Out of the room, a guard tells Aldo that Anabel is the first female Paladin since Anna, the Paladin who first drove the beasts away when the Miglance Kingdom was founded. He reveals that Anabel’s hometown is the same as Anna’s as Anabel enters the room. She does not mind the guard’s gossip, and states that she survived her hometown’s attack thanks to Anna’s protection. Since then, she has seen Anna as her mentor.

Character Quest 2[edit]

Whose Justice

In the morning, Anabel checks in to the Rinde Inn she notices beasts in the town. She looks around town to find a reason for them being let loose.

In a flashback, a young Anabel asks her grandfather to tell her Anna’s story again. After hearing the story, Anabel, whose name means “she who follows after Anna,” proclaims that she wants to be just like Anna. Her grandfather agrees. As Anabel also has the same birthmark on her chest that Anna had. After Anabel leaves the scene, her grandfather states that there is actually a true story.

In the present-day Rinde Inn, Anabel and Aldo spot a suspicious hooded figure and decide to go after him.

They ask a few people within Rinde about the hooded figure.. They have little luck until they ask a woman on their way to Serena Coast, who confirms that she had seen a suspicious hooded figure running towards Serena Coast.

They succeed in finding a beast, who they presume to be the hooded figure, who’s rallying other beasts to get revenge. After the fight, the real hooded figure arrives and aids the beasts’ escape by throwing a smoke bomb in Anabel’s and Aldo’s way. Anabel is determined to pursue them.

Aldo and Anabel reach the beasts and witness them arguing before fleeing. In the process the hooded figure, a beast, is left behind. The beast tells Aldo and Anabel that he is the descendant of a beast whose life was saved by a human woman. His goal is to find a way for humans and beastfolk to co-exist. The beast then runs away. Aldo and Anabel are puzzled.

They finally reach the hooded beast, who is arguing with the other beastfolk. In the argument, the hooded beast admits that his ancestor was actually saved by Anna, shocking Anabel, who decides to ask Anna herself. Anna’s spirit, however, possesses control of Anabel’s body and destroys all of the beasts.

Anna materializes in front of Anabel and Aldo and confesses that the hooded beast was telling the truth. Anabel questions the killing of an innocent. In turn, Anna confesses that she is planning to return all life to nothing. Anna explains that she was court-martialed and judged to be a spy by her Captain after saving a beast’s life, but this story was eventually forgotten and she was remembered as a symbol of the fight against the beasts. Anna was banished to the desert, where she realized that a world with nothing has no conflict. She concluded she had to eliminate any and all life. Her willpower drifted upon the river of time, landing on Anabel, her reincarnated self. Anna admits to not being responsible for saving Anabel’s life, but has indeed been the whisper in her ear. She leaves to pursue her plans, leaving Anabel upset with herself for trusting that unknown voice. Encouraged by Aldo, Anabel resolves to stop Anna.

Character Quest 3[edit]

The Inheritors

Anabel’s group arrives in Uruala in the parallel time layer, but the people of the village beg that they perform the Ceremony of Souls

After searching for Anna in Miglance Kingdom, Aldo and Anabel decide to venture to Rucyana Sands.

There, they sympathize with Anna’s punishment, and Anabel questions her prior belief that fighting the beasts was the right thing to do. In her eyes, she has believed a lie all this time. Nonetheless, Anabel resolved her need to stop Anna. As Anabel and Aldo are about to go back to Unigan, Riica detects extraordinary distortions in the gravity field. They deduce that Anna has traveled to the future through a wormhole.

Riica leads them to the Last Island, but is unable to locate Anna. After they ask around, they discover that the name “Anna” is extremely popular. Anna, in the future era, is known as a saintly woman who fought in the war against the Synth-Humans.

Finally, they find Anna, who believes that Aldo and Anna want to join her. Aldo believes that Anna’s conviction is wrong. Anabel proclaims that she believes in Anna’s ideals, but those of “the Anna who valued any and all life.” Anabel declares that she is not the direct descendant of Anna, but her will. Anabel and Aldo begin to fight Anna, as Anna begins to accumulate the power of thousands of years of prayers.

But in the end, the power of all prayers chooses Anabel. Anabel stops Anna without striking her down. Anna then fades away, trusting in Anabel’s peaceful future.

Anabel thus makes a new vow: “From this moment forward, I devote my sword to the ending of conflict and the protection of all life.”

Character Quest 4[edit]

Those Who Weave Eternal Prayers

As Anabel rises in rank among the Miglance Knights, she seems to be getting even busier. Deirdre worries about her…

Anabel leaves Aldo and Deirdre to take care of some official business while in Miglance Castle. Deirdre admits that she cannot help her sister as much as she would like to. When Anabel comes back, Aldo suggests she finds an aide and Anabel agrees. Her ideal aide would be someone with a differing worldview from hers and who isn’t afraid to speak their mind. The three begin searching the castle for a knight that fits this criteria.

They spot a knight telling himself that he will stand up to his officers to suggest a more proficient way to do his job. As Aldo and Anabel are about to approach for an interview, however, they see him to the opposite when a marshal reprimands him for laziness.

They find another knight contemplating not rebuilding the castle as a testament to the fallen. Anabel likes that he has interesting ideas, but when she sees him arguing with fellow knights, she realizes that he is a little too inflexible with them.

Anabel is losing hope and Aldo suggests to Deirdre that she volunteers to the position, but Deirdre thinks that people will think badly of Anabel if they are seen together. Suddenly, a knight enthusiastically approaches Anabel to volunteer as her aide and she accepts to give him a trial run. Lakhesis then approaches and tells everyone that there has been reports of a suspicious character loitering in the Karek Swamplands. The aide rushes to investigate and Anabel comments that she feels more tired than when she used to work by herself.

They find the aide aggressively confronting a hooded man. Anabel orders him to stop, but he does not and reveals the hooded man to be a beast man in disguise. The beast man pleads for mercy and Anabel lets him go, much to the aide’s disappointment. The aide looked up to Anabel as the hero who cut down the beasts. The beast man then tries to hurt Anabel while her back is turned, and she is saved at the last moment by Deirdre. They defeat the beastman and the knight states that he is no longer interested in being Anabel’s aide.

Back in Miglance Castle, Anabel reports back to Lakhesis and thinks about the knight’s disappointment. She realizes that her new ideology hasn’t gotten through to the troops yet and is sad that Aldo is her only ally. She then hears a voice in her head: “Silly child… Don’t you see the ally you have right by your side?”

Anabel gets a headache and rushes to Aldo and Deirdre to tell them that she has chosen her aide and will make her decision known in the throne room. Once in the throne room Anabel reveals that she wants to ask Deirdre to be her aide-de-camp. Deirdre, who was about to leave, is shocked by her decision, reminding Anabel that she gets headaches just looking at her.

Anabel, however, reveals that the headaches have stopped and asks Deirdre if her memories have also returned. She explains that Anna’s spirit had drifted down the river of time in order to show her the truth, giving Anabel her memories back before leaving her consciousness.

The two sisters can finally be a family again and Anabel assures Deirdre that she is not worried about her reputation, and that the kingdom will soon see the real Deirdre.

AS Quest[edit]

Deliverance Being and the Paladins

Anabel’s group arrives in Uruala in the parallel time layer, but the people of the village beg that they perform the Ceremony of Souls.

Aldo and Anabel visit the Uruala in the Parallel Time Layer. As they talk about the differences in the time layers, a townsman asks her to perform the Ceremony of Souls, an event meant to honor the former Paladins interred in Uruala. As the ceremony hasn’t been performed in years, Anabel feels obliged to perform it despite being from another time layer.

At the inn, Anabel changes into her Divine Paladin Style and explains that the ceremony is not mandatory, but is still to be performed annually.

They proceed to the northern hill, where the villagers are waiting, and Anabel performs the ceremony despite some doubts. She feels like an impostor. During the performance, she hears a voice, but ignores it, as the villagers call to thank her and invite her to stay the night.

The following day, they find out that the Paladins’ graves were violated by grave robbers. Furthermore, the protective barrier on the hill has weakened and a monster appears. Aldo and Anabel fail to defeat it, but Anna from the Parallel Time Layer (the voice that Anabel heard during the ceremony) appears and makes the monster run away.

Anna decides to test Anabel to see if she’s worth her power of prayers and has her fight the Deliverance Being, the embodiment of all of the Paladins who are resting on the hill. After her success, Anabel allows both Anna and the Deliverance Being along with their power to reside inside of her.

Aldo and Anabel proceed to Miglance Castle, where the monster is wreaking havoc, and slay it. As the guards mistake Anabel for their own Commanding Officer, Radias appears to help Aldo and Anabel get away.

Before going back home, they, with the assistance of the Deliverance Being, apprehend the grave robbers in Rinde.

After, Anabel mentions her desire to return to her Uruala and restore it with Deirdre. Aldo offers his help.
