Profile[edit]

Introduction Dialog[edit]

The crossing of two people’s paths is an ill-omen. I am Radica, a traveling fortune teller. What does fate have in store for a dark elf such as I, and a human such as yourself?… There are several potential futures. For now our futures are entwined. Let’s see how they unfurl.

Bio[edit]

A quiet and composed Dark Elf fortune teller. She has become adept at using astral cards in her readings. Her talents for prophesizing are so great that it seems she is merely reminiscing about the past. Generally a calm elf, but can get very heated when it comes to fortune telling, which she relies on a little too much.

Story[edit]

Quest 1: A Girl in Love Seeks Help in Fortune Telling[edit]

At Aldo's request, Radica tells him his fortune. It turned out well, but they needed to do something to make it even better...

While walking along Ratle, Aldo picks up 1 Git. Radica jokes that it is Aldo's lucky day, to which Aldo asks Radica to tell his fortune. "The Sky and the Earth—in the upright position," Radica gives her reading, "It will begin with luck ever so slightly turning your way and through your everyday life, happiness will find its way to you." But to further extend his good fortunes, there is a "key": to save a "young woman". Just then, they hear an exclamation.

It turns out that a young lady is claiming that the world is ending, and that she cannot take it any more. Radica believes this is merely a coincidence, but Aldo decides to go after her anyway in the Vasu Mountains. There, they find the young lady crying about her lost hopes and crushed dreams. Aldo suggests that Radica read the lady's fortunes to find if she is indeed "doomed" and otherwise find a way to happiness again. Before Radica can shush Aldo, the lady begs Radica to read her love fortune. "Undine—in the upright position. This represents resurrection, allure and passion." Radica tells the lady that she will encounter a new love. However, Radica is unable to complete her warning as the lady rushes off to find her love.

"I was trying to tell you both before, the source of my fortune-telling power is—" Radica gets interrupted once again while Aldo chases after the lady who went into Nadara Volcano. "Salamander—in the inverted position. Fear, downfall and unilateral violence..." Radica reads from her cards in the volcano. Aldo spots the lady and moves to defeat the Hell Hound in front of her.

"Fallen in love." The young lady mumbles. "You're so dashing!" She tells Aldo, "This is the new love I was destined to find, wasn't it?"

Radica brings Aldo away and tells him they should distance themselves from the lady as soon as possible, because this is usually the start of some trifling occurrence in elf culture. The lady rebukes Radica for saying Aldo is not her new lover, demands Aldo to choose between her and Radica, and then rushes deeper into the volcano. Yet again, Radica does not manage to finish her explanation on why she should not have done a love fortune as Aldo rushes to save her.

There, they find a T-Rex. The young lady runs towards the T-Rex and cries for Aldo to save her. Upon defeating it, the young lady proclaims that Aldo has chosen her over Radica. Out of words, Radica congratulates the young lady for finding new love, much to Aldo's surprise. However, the young lady is unhappy. After all, there is someone else she really loves. The young lady reveals she saw her boyfriend being frisky with some different girl, and got jealous of Aldo and Radica who seem to be getting along well.

"A fortune is nothing more than road sign. In the end, it is up to you to decide with [sic] road to take. No matter how desperate you become, nothing good will come from believing a reading so ardently." Radica cautions the lady to not lose sight of herself, and tells her to give her boyfriend a piece of her mind. Radica and Aldo then bring the lady back to Ratle.

In town, the lady finds her boyfriend laughing with another girl, and moves to confront her boyfriend. The boyfriend then reveals he has been meeting with his sister in secret to get a surprise present for her. It turns out he is preparing for a wedding proposal... The lady rushes back to Radica. "Your advice really worked! All I did was yell at him a bit and now we're getting married!"

Later on, Aldo asks Radica on the fortune that she gave earlier about finding a new love. Radica finally manages to elaborate that she can auspicate death and destruction down to the very last detail, but she almost always fail to give an accurate reading for life and prosperity, especially with love fortunes. Yet, when Radica was a normal elf, it was apparently the other way round—Radica could even do love fortunes in her sleep. Nonetheless, Aldo tells Radica that his fortune was read correctly: That was about as everyday as it can get for him, and the girl found happiness in the end.

As Aldo moves off to get food, Radica performs another reading. "Undine—in the upright position... What am I even doing? I know it won't come to fruition."

Quest 2: The Future in a Fortune Teller's Hands[edit]

Radica was downtrodden that her 'love fortunes' were missing their mark. Upon hearing this, Aldo proposes a way for her to train her skills.

"I can imagine how annoying it must be to not be able to do something you used to be good at." Aldo empathizes with Radica. "That isn't just why I want to improve though... N—No! Never mind!"

Radica explains that her predictions on how to enhance her predictions never succeeds because growth and self-improvement are closely linked to prosperity. She then thinks of auspicating hardships that await her to find something to help, and gets a reading that leads to Unigan. Perhaps going into the future will see improvements in fortune telling?

Upon reaching the place, they find another fortune teller who claims she can only give oracle thrice in a day, despite having used to do way more. Seeing the crowd, Radica believes people seem to take her word seriously, and proceeds to have a chat with her. Seeing Radica's "awfully antiquated way of predicting" using cards, the fortune teller tells Radica that no one will believe the outdated nonsense now. Radica is shocked and outraged at how the fortune teller talks about her astral cards, to which the fortune teller replies she will make an exception and do a reading for her, but only at Serena Coast to avoid people making a fuss.

There, the fortune teller challenges Radica to make predictions for Aldo and compare the results to see who is better. The fortune teller starts, "Whoooaaa! Come forth! Power of the Great Elementals, transcending time from before time itself!"

...

"Runrunrunrunrunrunrun!" The fortune teller runs away towards Unigan.

Aldo and Radica are left confused, and Radica comments that they short-ears seem to always be in a rush for something.

"Runrunrunrunrunrunrun!" The fortune teller runs past them again. Finally, she returns to the couple gasping for air, and claims to reveal the fate. "Witness the true power of my *pant* divination powe—blegh! Full power sprint read! *cough* Here it comes! *cough* *splutter* Ohhh!"

"*pant* With shortness of breath, coughing, *cough* and most importantly, phlegm buildup, I am able to predict the future!" The fortune teller explains. "Your *splutter* fate, young man, is... *cough* Everyday life will—blegh—happiness *cough* phew... Find its way!"

"Feels like I've heard that one before." Aldo remarks. Radica seems convinced on why the fortune teller only do three readings a day now, but does not believe her reading for she does not sense even a smidgen of magic. Radica then proceeds to prove that the fortune teller is a fraud.

"Cards of mine, answer my call!" Radica reads her card. "...No. This woman really does have a teller's power, and a mighty one at that. She uses some kind of charm... A ring. One which contains a great power. But it became lost to her, and her use of its powers with it."

The fortune teller stammers and admits that Radica's divination is spot-on, and claims she has been waiting for someone like her to show up for a really long time now. The story goes that the fortune teller had that ring ever since she was a fresh-faced maiden and she became able to see into the mists of the future as a special bond between the ring and her formed. She then begs Radica to find her precious ring with her all-seeing seer powers. She can sense its aura if the ring was nearby, but did not find anything despite walking up and down the place tirelessly. Radica feels sick at the thought of losing her cards, and promises to help find the ring.

Radica sees a "sea of sand" and a tower in her divination, and thus they head to Rucyana Sands. Now, she can feel the aura from her ring. As for how the ring winded up on the other side of the ocean, the fortune teller recalls having heard an unusual whooshing noise and feeling something small scuttle past her feet when she dropped it by mistake. Radica theorises that it is not a simple theft...

"Pohhhh!"

"I recognize that noise! So, it WAS one of the Nopaew Clan!" Aldo exclaims. The Nopaew Clan believes that anything on the ground is as good as theirs. Defeating the Harpies, Aldo manages to save the Nopaew. The fortune teller interjects that she can almost taste her ring's aura. Radica and Aldo asks for the ring and the Nopaew hands it over willingly. "That was easier than I expected. The Nopaew Clan aren't usually so willing to part with their things." Aldo notes. Radica answers that it was probably a way of saying thank you... but the Nopaew then sprints off.

"Ah, that sprint! Now I remember where I got the idea to do my full power sprint readings from." The fortune teller thanks Radica and Aldo for getting her ring back, and judges that someone of her talents does not need any lessons on brushing up telling skills. Stammering, Radica replies that she struggle with love fortunes.

"I may be old, but not senile—I get it now." The fortune teller brings her away from Aldo. "Even if you did become adept at love fortunes, it would be a waste of time. Because one's own love readings always produces false positives, that's why. Your own desires warp the truth of the reading, you see." Radica is in disbelief, but the fortune teller continues, "Don't think I never tried it myself when I was a spring chicken. To think, you've managed to get your power to this level and yet you still haven't experienced your first love! How droll!"

Nonetheless, the fortune teller performs a small reading of Radica's future. "An island that soars skyward; the base of a tower reaching into the clouds; people worshipping cards, children rejoicing." Perhaps cards are not so antiquated after all? Aldo thinks that the fortune teller may be talking about Elzion, but she likely would not know about Elzion. Maybe her reading really was accurate... so they take a trip to Elzion.

In Elzion, Radica attempts to divine an answer on who to ask to find out about people worshipping cards, when a boy notices them. More people come in and remarks on having never seen the card design before. As it turns out, they are talking about a card game — a female, dark elf warrior from the ancient times who does battle and stuff, and uses "Astral Cards" to vanquish her foes. Radica responds that the astral cards were never meant to be a game, and were a sacred means of clairvoyance.

"Clairvoyance? You mean like... That 'full power sprint read' stuff?"

Radica is surprised. The boy carries on, "It's kinda all the rage right now. Look, they're even doing it over there right now!" The group looks over to their left.

"Very well. This is a telling tradition passed down over 800 long years. Allow the memories of the wind to guide you." The fortune teller runs. "Runrunrunrunrunrunrun!"

"You see, they predict the future with shortness of breath, coughing, and most importantly, 'apparently,' the phlegm buildup." The boy finishes his explanation.

Aldo and Radica are left speechless. "I guess she lost her ring again after we left, huh?"

Quest 3: The Forbidden Fruit[edit]

At Aldo’s request, Radica tells him his fortune. But Radica becomes baffled by the utterly unexpected outcome…

Aldo finds a Git on the streets of Acteul and Radica tells him that it is his lucky day again. He then asks her to read his fortune, but she cannot see anything, which has never happened to her before. They are interrupted by a hooded man who has heard about Radica’s powers. He asks for a reading, claiming that countless lives depend on it. Radica thus performs a reading for him at Keruri Highroad, away from prying eyes, as per his request. She sees two silhouettes sinking into a sea of darkness and reveals that one of them is the hooded man. She advices him to refrain from continuing to tread his path and he agrees to listen to her.

Still worried, Radica goes to see the fortune teller in Unigan and asks her to read both hers and Aldo’s fortunes. She complies and sees nihility, which means that Aldo will stop existing. Radica starts crying and admits that she saw the same thing. Aldo, however, is not worried and promises her that nothing bad is going to happen to him.

The hooded man suddenly arrives and is revealed to somehow be behind Aldos’ future termination. Radica uses her cards to find him in the Corinda Plains and they go after him. The hooded man reveals himself as a Phantom who wants to eliminate Radica due to her powers. They manage to defeat him, but he soon after tries to suck Radica into their sea of shadow.

Aldo sacrifices himself to save her and is sucked in instead. Radica resolves to use the Power of Time once more to turn back time and save him, not matter the consequences, but Aldo comes back to stop her. She is so surprised that he is back that she doesn’t even realize it when he is telling her to stop.

He too doesn’t exactly know how he got back, but somehow just ended up at the Spacetime Rift, as he was thinking that he had to get back to her. They thus go to Time’s Forgotten Stop to ask the Master what happened. He claims that Aldo was just lucky and explains that Radica couldn’t read his future, because he ended up at the Spacetime Rift, which is completely isolated from the rest of the world.

Aldo and Radica then return to Corinda Plains, where she admits that she had already given up, but he fought to open a new path for his future. She says: “The future is what you carve out for yourself. And not something that is decided by fortune telling. After all, telling is no more than a way to illuminate one’s path as they walk it. Not the final destination. Thank you, Aldo, for finally helping me remember this fundamental fact.”

Quest AS: Fruit of Vows[edit]

Radica is telling Aldo’s fortune when she realizes there’s a blank card mixed in with the deck…

Aldo finds a Git on the streets of Ratle again and Radica tells him that it is his lucky day. He then asks her to read his fortune, but the Salamander card turns into white paper as she performs her reading. She explains that she visited well-known spirits and passed their trials to create her astral cards.

Aldo suggests that they go to Purgatory and Radica decides to wear a special garment woven with threads full of energy from her elven village that she wore back when she first went to challenge the spirits, since she might have to prove her strength again. She thus goes to change to her Fortuna Style and they proceed to destination.

They meet Salamander, who speculates that Radica’s current dark elf energy might be in conflict with his light energy, since their pact was made when she was still a regular elf. Claiming that she has a deep-seated fate bound up with spirits, Salamander decides to give her a chance to receive a blessing of light from the stars: she will have to temper the flow of the dark power within her with the flow of light in her body and swear a vow to one of the light to be together forever.

Salamander adds that Aldo is uncommonly blessed with the power of light and suggests that she swears a vow to him. Aldo accepts, although he is a little taken aback when he realizes that the vow means that they are getting married! While she realizes that this ceremony will be a formality, Radica’s face turns red and her eyes start tearing up, worrying Aldo.

They then go to Sarupa and ask Ewella, who is the one who made Radica her outfit, information on how to perform the Ceremony of Vows. She giggles at how flustered Radica looks and explains that they have to squeeze and drink the nectar of a holy tree’s fruit and exchange their vows at the ceremony grounds… She then whispers to Radica that they have to drink the nectar from mouth to mouth, completely freezing her. While Radica is in shock, she takes Aldo and explains what he has to do.

Aldo and Radica then head to Vega Forest, while Ewella takes care of the preparations. As everyone leaves, Cyrus appears from out of a tree. He was taking a nap, but has actually become interested in what is going to happen, laughing at Radica’s predicament and Aldo’s naïveté.

In the forest Aldo and Radica split up to look for the fruit, as she keeps thinking about having to drink its nectar from mouth to mouth with Aldo, who keeps acting normal. Radica quickly finds the fruit, but is so distracted that she doesn’t notice monsters from behind. Luckily, Aldo rescues her and they take them out together.

After they get the fruit of the holy tree, they are supposed to perform the ceremony behind the waterfall on Charol Plains, but Radica wants to make sure that Aldo is okay with it. He tells her that there is no way that he could leave something so important to someone else and she is flattered by his resolve.

They then join Ewella by the waterfall and Ilulu, Poporo, and Cyrus also arrive to witness the Ceremony of Vows. Before they begin, Ewella has Radica wear a wedding dress, leaving everyone amazed by how beautiful she looks. Finally, Ewella has Aldo and Radica accept their vows and the time to drink the nectar approaches.

Aldo goes first and Radica closes her eyes, expecting a kiss. However, Aldo reveals that she just has to drink the nectar from a cup from the same part as his. Ewella starts giggling and Radica covers her embarrassment by quickly drinking from the cup, completing the Ceremony of Vows.

Everyone compliments Radica again and Aldo tells her that they can go back to Salamander. Radica wants to change first, so he compliments how she looks again and goes to wait for her outside. Radica is thus left free to confront Ewella, who admits that she was teasing her and whispers something else that makes her blush even more more.

Back in Purgatory, Salamander restores the energy of Radica’s astral cards and Radica thanks Aldo from the depths of her heart. He tells her that she is an important friend of his, regardless of whether she is helpful or not. Radica almost tells him that she loves him, but stops herself in time, and just reaffirms that she is glad to have met him and that he is still by her side.

She then tries to read Aldo’s fortune again, but realizes that Undine’s, Sylph’s, and Gnome’s cards have also turned into white paper. They thus have to do the ceremony three more times and Radica laments that her poor heart won’t take it!
