The name’s Nero. I’ve got the strongest fists around here. You think I’m boasting? But that’s just the honest truth. There’s nothing in the world these fists can’t break. Ah ha ha, you still doubt me. That’s just fine. I’ll show you the truth the only way I know.

A man who loves all things beautiful. Beauty, in Nero's eyes, is not limited to aesthetics or art, but it can be found in a noble heart or a grateful smile.

Story[edit]

Character Quest 1[edit]

In Love with the Inner Beauty

A man who went looking for jewels has gone missing. Nero has been asked to look for him by an acquaintance…

Nero admires the architecture in Ratle while taking a stroll with Aldo. They get interrupted by a Lady looking for someone to save a close friend of hers. Her friend adventured to Vasu Mountains for a precious stone and she worries for his safety. Nero, looking for glory, agrees to help.

Nero and Aldo catch up to the Lady’s friend, called “Little Fella”. The Little Fella explains to the two that he hopes that he would marry a Noble Young Lady if he brought her back a jewel. Though Nero tries to convince the Little Fella that the Noble Young Lady might be toying with him, the Little Fella insists that she and him will marry.

Angry, the Little Fella runs deeper into Vasu Mountains. Nero and Aldo give chase. They see the Little Fella cornered by a monster and run in to help. Once he is safe, the Little Fella is convinced he cannot show his face in front of the Noble Young Lady. Nero suggests that the Little Fella could lie to the noble girl that he fended off monsters by himself. The Little Fella agrees. Nero and Aldo offer to vouch for his lie. In exchange, Nero requests to accompany the Little Fella when he meets the Noble Young Lady. Nero wants to see what kind of woman she is.

The group finds the Noble Young Lady in Palsifal Palace. The Little Fella offers her the jewel, and the Noble Young Lady is surprised that he did not give up on finding it. The Noble Young Lady refuses to marry the Little Fella, a commoner. She is more interested in Nero upon seeing him. Upset, the Little Fella runs away. As he does, Nero tells the Little Fella to give the stone to someone who is important to him instead. After the Little Fella runs away, the Noble Young Lady asks Nero for his name. Nero does not offer his name to the Noble Young Lady but confronts her for her behavior. He hates people like her, who boast about their privilege and looks down on others who are of a lower status. Nero proclaims that he loves all things beautiful, and the Noble Young Lady is not one of them.

Now in Ratle, Nero and Aldo witness the Lady consoling the Little Fella. Despite being initially upset, the Little Fella is thankful that his exchange with the Noble Young Lady did not go well. He thanks the Lady, his close friend, and gives her the jewel instead.

Aldo, watching from a distance, realizes that the Lady was in love with the Little Fella from the start. The Lady had put the Little Fella’s feelings before her own, even when he intended to marry someone else. Nero finds beauty in the Lady's actions, and her heart.

Character Quest 2[edit]

The Magic Perfume

The talk of the town is a mysterious perfume that a strange woman makes. Interested, Nero tries to make contact with her...

While taking a walk in Rinde, a Girl passes by. Nero notices the scent of her perfume, and the Girl tells him that a Perfumer, from overseas, is staying at the inn with her child. Nero and Aldo want to meet her.

Nero and Aldo visit the inn and ask a Boy about the perfumer. The Boy, calling the perfumer his “mistress,” calls her over. Aldo notices that the Boy is nervous, but quickly dismisses the thought. The Perfumer introduces the Boy, the Perfumer’s Kid, as her foster child, and explains that her life of traveling and selling perfume is her way of raising him. She has taken in many children. Regardless, Nero offers to buy one of the Perfumer’s wares. The Perfumer explains that he cannot because she does not have the necessary ingredients to replenish her stock. Nero and Aldo offer to find some for her in exchange for her perfume.

The Perfumer directs Aldo and Nero to find the Gordo Leaf in Karek Swampland. Once there, they slay a monster that contains the ingredient. After they defeat it, the Perfumer’s Kid meets Nero and Aldo to take back the ingredients himself, claiming that he and the Perfumer are leaving Rinde soon. The Perfumer interrupts the Kid and takes the Gordo Leaf herself. Nero asks the Perfumer the whereabouts of her other children, and the Perfumer explains that they had already grown up. The Perfumer and her Kid leave soon after.

Aldo and Nero find it strange that the Perfumer claims to have raised children to adulthood despite being very young herself. They saw the Perfumer’s Kid is fearful in the Perfumer’s presence. Worried, they hurry to Serena Coast to catch them there. Nero and Aldo witness the Kid being forcefully handled by the Perfumer, and ask him his reasons for looking afraid. The Kid runs over to Aldo and Nero and exclaims that his mistress uses children’s blood to make her perfumes. Quickly, they get surrounded by the Perfumer’s monsters.

After they defeat the Perfumer’s monsters, the Perfumer’s magic perfume wears off, and takes the image of an old woman. She bursts into a green flame, and dies. The Kid explains that he tried to intercept Aldo and Nero’s delivery of the ingredient to prevent himself being made into perfume. Once he thanks Aldo and Nero, the Kid says that he will use the profits made from selling perfume and use it to return to his homeland. The Kid smiles as he leaves, and Nero deems it a beautiful smile.
