Ilulu/Lore

From Another Eden Wiki

Profile[edit]

Appearance[edit]

Ilulu is a pale young woman with white hair and red eyes. Her legs are lined with light blue tattoos. She wears a red hooded cloak with masks attached to it. She also wears a circlet with large metal horns.

Personality[edit]

Ilulu is whimsical, flighty, and often reckless. Despite being a reaper of souls, she never takes things very seriously. She has a rather underdeveloped sense of right and wrong, and she doesn't seem to be affected very much by human happiness, sadness, or even death.

Story[edit]

Quest 1: Compensation for a Job[edit]

Ilulu and Aldo overhear two senior citizens talking about a young woman who just died of illness. They see a soul floating behind the people and follow it to the Derismo Highroad. Ilulu starts to collect the soul of the young woman with her scythe, but the soul begs them to let her complete her unfinished business first. Ilulu returns the soul to her ghostly body and asks her to explain. The ghost woman asks them to help her take revenge on her ex-lover who abandoned her on her deathbed. Aldo is resistant but Ilulu agrees to help. After debating the proper punishment for the man, the ghost sees a stone on the side of the road and decides to imbue it with her bitterness and grief. Ilulu picks up the stone and the three leave to search for the man.

When they find the ex-lover, he is collecting flowers. Ilulu asks him if he abandoned his lover. The man explains that he never wanted to abandon her, but he needed to join an expedition to the Northern Whirlseas so that he could afford the medicine needed to treat the woman's illness. By the time he got back she was dead. The man gathers up his flowers and returns to Acteul. The ghost tells Aldo and Ilulu that she made a mistake assuming the worst of him, but she simply can't let go of the pain and suffering she endured alone during her last days. The cursed stone begins to glow and the ghost transforms into a monster. Ilulu subdues the monster, then slashes it with her scythe, which eliminates the negative emotions and returns the ghost to her senses.

The three follow the ghost's ex-lover back to Acteul just in time to see him dropping the flowers into the river in memory of his lost companion. The ghost is filled with love for him. She pours her happy emotions into the formerly cursed stone, transforming it into a good luck charm. Aldo and Ilulu give the stone to the man and walk away. Aldo tells Ilulu that he thinks she never had any intention of helping the ghost get revenge. Ilulu laughs and blows off the comment.

Quest 2: Don't Reap Souls, Pick Flowers![edit]

In Palsifal Palace, Aldo runs into Ilulu playing with a soul she took from a live person. Aldo is shocked and insists that she return the person's soul immediately. Ilulu takes him to the body of the apprentice palace gardener and reluctantly returns his soul. In talking to the gardener, Ilulu reveals that she has loved flowers ever since she awoke as a Purgatorial spirit being. Aldo decides to distract Ilulu from her desire to casually harvest people's souls by taking her to look for flowers. They travel to Corinda Plains, then to Zol Plains to find the perfect flowers for the palace. To Aldo's dismay, Ilulu decides that the best kind of flowers for the palace would be Dancing Blossom flower monsters. The monsters attack but are defeated, leaving behind their seeds. Ilulu gathers the seeds and they return to the palace.

When the apprentice palace gardener sees the monster seeds he is overjoyed. He says the Dancing Blossoms will add life to the palace gardens. After he leaves, Aldo tells Ilulu that people are like flowers. They should not be harvested before their time. Ilulu pretends to understand, but when Aldo finishes speaking she slashes him with her scythe and tries to collect his soul. However, it doesn't work. Aldo is left surprised and confused.

AS Quest: To Break the Cycle[edit]

As Aldo walks through Sarupa, he hears Ilulu singing. He immediately assumes she has snatched another innocent soul, and runs through the town making sure everyone is okay. It's a false alarm. Ilulu is singing because she senses that a new purgatorian is on their way. A lady with a white cat approaches them. Seeing the cat reminds Ilulu that she was supposed to meet her boss, Purgatory Cat, on the Charol Plains. She rushes off to her meeting.

Ilulu wakes up her boss and apologizes for being late. Purgatory Cat tells them that Mia, a new purgatorian born from the soul of Clara, will be arriving soon. Purgatory Cat also reveals that she has collected enough soul energy to reincarnate and will soon be reborn. When Purgatory Cat says farewell, Ilulu is upset and runs away. Aldo finds Ilulu at the waterfall on Charol Plains. Ilulu feels sad that her Boss is leaving her. Aldo convinces her to set aside her feelings and attend the reincarnation.

In purgatory, they find Purgatory Cat wearing a wreath of pink flowers. Ilulu twirls and suddenly is wearing her reincarnation dress. Purgatory Cat reprimands her because only souls ready for reincarnation should wear their reincarnation clothes. Ilulu doesn't care. As Purgatory Cat begins to glow, Ilulu rushes into her aura. She starts to glow too, but since she is not ready for reincarnation, the glow turns into a dark miasma.

Drawn by the darkness, a phantom appears. It has come to consume Ilulu's immature soul. Ilulu attacks, but more phantoms keep arriving. The dark miasma around Ilulu grows. She faints. Purgatory Cat sacrifices her own energy to bring back Ilulu, but the phantoms turn to consume the cat's soul instead. Ilulu refuses to let the phantoms take the Boss. Aldo and Ilulu beat the phantoms back, but the Boss can no longer reincarnate. She tells Ilulu not to worry because she was happy to protect her from the phantoms. Instead of letting the cat's soul fade away, she enters Aldo's body. Aldo's energy reinvigorates Purgatory Cat and gives her the energy to reincarnate. The cat thanks them both, then disappears into a glowing light. Ilulu vows to be a good boss to the next generation of purgatorians. Ilulu and Aldo return to Sarupa.

In Sarupa, Ilulu and Aldo meet the newest purgatorian, Mia. Surprisingly, Mia can remember pieces of her former life as Clara. She remembers Ilulu and Purgatory Cat saving her soul from dissolution, and thanks Ilulu for her help. Ilulu seizes the role of Boss. A soul floats past them, and Ilulu and Mia take off in hot pursuit.
