The Lost Tome and the Silver Unfading Flower

Introduction[edit]

Auction is a new mechanic introduced in v2.4 of the game. In Chapter 1 of the Episode The Lost Tome and the Silver, Unfading Flower, you gain access to Iota District in Elzion where the Auction House is located. A new option called Treasure will be available in the Catalog menu. There are 2 parts to Auction: Seeking and Bidding.

Seeking[edit]

Seeker Points dictate how high your Seeker Rank is, and this determines what kind of items you can bid on. Raising your Seeker Points also gives you the episode's Point Rewards, including a total of three Chant Scripts and one Yggdrasil Proof.

Seeker Points are primarily earned by completing the many subquests tied to the episode. Whenever you complete a subquest for the first time, you get bonus Seeker Points. Depending on the type of Treasure you've obtained, different characters will give you even more bonus Seeker Points. Seeker Points are awarded whenever you obtain the object of the quest (which doesn't always coincide with the quest's end) and to get the bonus Seeker Points you need the right characters only in that moment, not during the whole quest. See main page for the list of bonus characters.

Depending on your actions, sometimes the Treasure you obtain will be a High Quality one. Like getting an XL fish, a crown icon will appear in the image in the treasure's item record. The amount of Seeker points obtained from high quality Treasures is 1.1x the base value of the Treasure. In some quests, it's possible to get low quality item, the amount of Seeker points from low quality will be 0.9x from base value of the Treasure. Note that not all of the items have a high quality variant.

Seeker Rank[edit]

Seeker Rank is increased as you progress through the story and earn more Seeker Points. You start at the lowest rank, Stone. The next rank is Iron, which is earned after gaining 500 Seeker Points. The requirements for the subsequent ranks get exponentially higher (2300 for Bronze, 4200 for Silver, 7000 for Gold, 11000 for Platinum). The final rank, Black, allows for bidding on exclusive items and is only available through the progression of The Lost Tome and the Silver, Unfading Flower. A higher Seeker Rank means access to higher-quality auction items.

ROC Grinding Strategy[edit]

Easiest method is to focus only on the high value runs.

  • Spirit Helmet + Axe of Misfortune set
  • Horn of the King
  • Machinery Rose + Maiden's Breath + Moon Beauties set

Bidding[edit]

ROC is the currency needed to bid on items in the Auction House. You are given a small reserve of ROC to start with, and can earn more from Treasures collected in compulsory subquests. There are two things you can do at the Auction House: Submit and Bid.

Submitting[edit]

Sell up to three of your collected Treasures for ROC. You can appoint a Broker to aid you - each Broker has a different affinity for each Treasure category. Match your sold Treasures with the Broker's specialty to maximize profit. From time to time, the Broker may be in a good mood, indicated by a red diamond icon on the bottom left of their portrait. Appointing them to sell your Treasures at that time will further increase profits. Broker moods (and the availability of the Legendary Broker, once you recruit him) are rerolled each time you sell off Treasure(s).

Selling high quality Treasures will increase your profit. If you sell certain Treasures in a set (called a "bundle"), your profit will increase even more (1.2x the summed value if a set of 2 Treasures, and 1.5x the value if a set of 3 Treasures). Bundle information will be filled out as you collect the right Treasures.

After you've sold off a Treasure, the subquest that yields it will become available again. Some subquests have a longer cooldown time that's started from the moment you've completed them. If you can initiate a repeatable subquest, its treasure entry in the Treasure Catalog will read "Receivable", and you can see the subquest on the minimap as a grey quest icon.

Bidding Mechanics[edit]

Bidding takes place in the form of Auction Battles, where you are to discourage the opponent from bidding by depleting their Motivation. Both you and the opponent start with 100 Motivation and 2 (out of 10) Willpower. Willpower is consumed by special Auction Skills. You gain 2 at the start of each turn.

Different moves have different effects on the opponent's Motivation and the bid price. Try to win the Auction Battle quickly before the price gets too high. If your winning bid is higher than expected price, you will get a "Disappointing" rank; getting par or a little under will get you "Good", and getting a great discount from expected gives you "Excellent". The price changes the images of the coins on the bid display at the top of the screen. Finishing with 1 stack of coins is "Excellent", 2 is "Good".

There are 5 skills you can learn in addition to the 4 you start with. The condition for a chance to obtain a new skill is to get the opponent to display the skill, and win the auction with a Good or Excellent result. The auction skills you can learn from the opponents are:

  • Finishing Stroke - Impatient Man
  • Pacify - Strange Madame
  • Self-help - Serene Young Man
  • Hold Ground - Prudent Lady
  • Vigilance - Wealthy Old Man
