Character Quest 1: Killing Time[edit]
Minalca and Aldo see a couple arguing in Elzion. Aldo wants to offer them help, but...
Starts in Elzion Theta District. Aldo finishes up another conversation and wakes Minalca up from her five minutes of sleep. Aldo's impressed she's able to sleep while standing up. Minalca responds saying he's got a lot of time on his hands to waste on total strangers' problems. Aldo explains that when he sees someone in need, he feels like he has to help out. Minalca is intrigued by Aldo and suggests they challenge each other a little to learn more about one another. Aldo agrees. Minalca suddenly swings her chainsaw at him, exclaiming "Die!". He manages to dodges, confused at what she's doing. She's equally confused, asking if he was expecting a countdown before the fight. Aldo explains this isn't what he meant and tells her to put her weapon down. Minalca attempts once more to convince Aldo to fight, but he doesn't fall for it. Minalca calls him a buzzkill and Aldo suggests they go to the tavern to eat and talk. Minalca agrees on the condition that Aldo pays, and they head off to Gamma District.
On their way to the tavern, Aldo and Minalca run into a couple arguing on the streets. Aldo and Minalca go back and forth, with Minalca stating that their own hunger is a bigger concern. Aldo talks to the couple, who reveals their son was kidnapped, and the kidnapper is demanding a ransom and a warning to not report it to the cops. The husband wants to report it, but the wife wants to pay the ransom, and they started to argue and blame each other. Aldo tells them he'll help them look for their son, while Minalca walks away, not agreeing to join a search party. Minalca is annoyed at Aldo for changing up their plans, and questions what to do next... until she overhears two strange guys discussing a target being secured at their hideout and a meetup at Route 99. She smiles wickedly, realizing she discovered the kidnappers. She thinks to tell Aldo, but decides not to because she doesn't "do charity".
On Route 99, we see the two strange guys with two additional men who hold a blue-haired boy hostage. They confirm the boy is the only son of the head of an up-and-coming company. The strange guys discuss how the parents are never home and they had no security. The boy is exchanged within the group, getting paid to move him. We hear a new voice saying "I'm so glad to see people like you". It's Minalca. They question who she is, and Minalca asks if they want to make a deal for her to overlook their antics. They laugh, saying they could just fight her. She then asks the frightened kid what she would get in return if she helps him escape. The kid starts to say he doesn't have anything, before Minalca interrupts asking if he even wants to live. She gives him some clues, which helps the boy realize he can buy her whatever food she'd like. Minalca is satisfied with the reward, and starts to fight the strange guys.
Once they're defeated, a white hooded figure walks up to the two, saying that Minalca messed up his plan. The hooded man instead has a deal for her. He knows she wants money for food, so he offers for her to join his organization. There's not much time, as the hooded figure mentions there's a strange man who's started sniffing around them (yes, this time the strange man is Aldo). Minalca says she's made her decision, and apologizes to the kid, saying she just wants something nice to eat.
We cut to Aldo in Elzion with the boy's father, where they're discussing some suspicious guys who were hanging around Industrial Ruins. Aldo decides to head over, while wishing Minalca was there to help. Aldo heads deep in the Industrial Ruins, when a white hooded figure appears with the blue-haired boy. They reveal they're the kidnapper. Aldo yells angrily to release the boy, and calls them a coward for hiding their face. The hooded figure takes off their cloak, and it's... Minalca! Aldo is shocked and Minalca explains that she was hired by the criminals who kidnapped him. Aldo asks if this is a joke, but Minalca pulls the chainsaw on the boy and tells Aldo that he needs to fight her if he wants the boy back in one piece. Aldo questions her on why she joined the kidnappers, and she responds saying she wants food. He asks if she's hungry, but she corrects him that she wouldn't join those idiots for something petty like food. She says the kid promised her food, and Aldo catches her slip. She backtracks and tells him to come at her if he values the kid's life. The boy cries out to Minalca, asking her to help him, and we see that the hooded man from earlier has caught the boy again. Minalca fills Aldo in on the gaps - Minalca pretended to be an ally to the hooded figure, who in turn, showed her around their HQ. She befriended the people there and also "shut them all up for good". The hooded figure angrily states that Minalca's rampage destroyed his whole organization, and he plans to take her down with him. Reinforcement bots come in to fight Aldo and Minalca. Together, they defeat the reinforcements. The hooded man threatens the boy's life, but Minalca's able to predict his steps and knows he can't afford to hurt the boy. He orders search bits to attack her, and she withstands the attack. She defeats the remaining bots and proceeds to attack the hooded man yelling "Die!"... until Tetra appears in front of her and howls. She states she won't kill him, and that she must have gone back to her old ways.
The hooded man is tied up as Tetra looks over him. Aldo ensures Minalca is okay. The boy apologizes to Aldo for pretending to be Minalca's hostage, sharing his admiration for her. Aldo has concerns leaving the hooded man, but Minalca convinces Aldo to take the boy/call for support. The boy doesn't want to leave her behind - he mentions that he won't be able to see her for a while or hand her that promised reward. Aldo is happy to see the boy worried about Minalca, and starts to head back to Elzion by himself. Before he heads off screen, he asks why Minalca she pretended to double-cross him and start a fight. Minalca reminds him that she told him this before - she just wants to get to know him. She clarifies that she doesn't trust words, but in life or death you can tell a person's true nature. Aldo understands and heads off.
Tetra heals her and disappears afterward. The boy asks about Tetra, but all Minalca can say is that Tetra is a mysterious creature made of steam that just started following her around one day. The boy asks if they're friends, but Minalca laughs and says she wouldn't go that far. Tetra has a strange ability to heal, and Minalca likes to take advantage of that since her allies get themselves injured when she fights. Minalca heads off to grab food, but the boy asks for one last favor.
In Elzion, Aldo finds the parents with EGPD, after the father finally contacted them. Aldo notifies them that their child is safe, and while EGPD and the mother are ready to go with Aldo, the father says he's busy with work and walks off. The remaining group heads back to Industrial Ruins to find Minalca and the boy missing. The hooded man is still there to deliver a message from Minalca, saying "I've got the kid, catch me if you can". Everyone else runs off frantically, and Aldo asks himself if Minalca has become a real kidnapper.
