Summary

Aldo and Amy hear a birdsong on the Zol Plains. They thought nothing of it, but the encounter an old man being chased by a monstrous bird.

This content unlocks Gariyu. On release, there was a requirement to wait 6 hours before you can take on the next fight however this has been removed.

The Flame Eater is the main recurring boss found across Gariyu's Chance Encounter questline. It must be fought and defeated multiple times before unlocking the final duel with Gariyu to recruit him. The Flame Eater's fights occur in different locations.

Where to find Lvl90 Flame Eater: Go to Corinda Plains, go to Southwest exit guarded by the horror.

Tips

• Fire resistance is almost imperative. Saki (Another Style) is a great inclusion as her Jotunn Effect reduces the damage from the Fire Birds but also greatly punishes them with her AoE counterattack.
• Pierce attacks can exploit the Fire Birds' weakness to build up and extend Another Force. Joker can repeatedly switch in to destroy the Fire Birds with his pierce Valor Chant.
• Even with level 80 characters and fire resistance, the level 80 flame eater and its allies will do 3000-9000 points of damage to all party members every round.

Gariyu

Gariyu can only be fought by bringing him the Flame Eater Ash. You will have to pursue the Flame Eater at the following locations: Zol Plains (lvl 40), Lake Tiilen (lvl 50), Keruri Highroad (lvl 60), Nadara Volcano (lvl 70), and Xeno-Domain (lvl 80) and defeat its level 80 form to unlock the fight. Defeating him adds him to the roster.
