Cat Battle System
The Cat Battle system was introduced in v2.2.6, expanding on the ability to play as Varuo. In addition to expanding the area that Varuo can explore, it adds a new minigame on the Last Island while playing as Varuo.
The system is introduced with a Cat Quest, titled "Dance the Paw-Rondo!" To initiate it, first travel to Rinde and take the boat from the pier to travel to Zarbo. Head to the bottom-right corner of the map, and unlock a new secret passageway. Varuo will follow a cat toy and follow it into the future, landing on the Last Island. Travel as far right as you can, unlock a new exit, and then start the Cat Quest that introduces you to Cat Battles.
Completion of this Cat Quest (by fighting your way through the Spurr-ace Colony) will award you 100 Chronos Stones, and unlock a new quest that lets you unlock Bivette's 5-star class if you bring her to the crash site.
Mechanics[edit]
Cat Types[edit]
Each cat has its basic attack, which come in three variations: Swipe , Scratch
and
, and each has a tactical advantage over the other:
→
→
→
. Cats also have different Valor Meo-ants and attack effects.
Valor Meo-ants and Attack Effects[edit]
These effects vary from 1-turn buffs/debuffs to restoration. They include:
- Attack, Defense, Speed buffs and debuffs (Valor Meo-ants and special effects);
- simultaneous Attack, Defense, Speed buffs on allies and debuffs on enemies (Valor Meo-ants only);
- Luck buffs (special effects only);
- regeneration at the end of round (special effects only).
Stats[edit]
There are several stats used in Cat Battles that work similarly to main game battles.
- HP – total health of cat squad. Front line and back line HP bar is shared, when in gets depleted, entire squad loses.
- Attack – determines damage dealt to opponent.
- Defense – lowers damage received from opponent.
- Speed – determines whose attack is delivered first.
- As buffs/debuffs and instant healing get applied before attacks, and regeneration gets applied after attacks, whose attack is delivered first matters only when both you and your opponent need only one attack to win.
- There are some speed-dependent attacks.
- Luck – determines critical rate of attacks.
There is no magic, so there are only physical stats. Skills are free, so there is no MP.
Positions[edit]
Before commencing a cat fight, you have to assign three cats to three positions. You can choose from any cat registered in your CAT-alog.
Leader[edit]
Leader only determines damage done by Special Attack. For Leader, only level matters. Leader's attack effect and Valor Meo-ant are never used, their type affects nothing. However, Leader can equip special skill sets ("Tactics") which are unlocked by defeating enemies. These skills' damage is determined by power of cat leading front line at the moment, not by Leader.
Front Line[edit]
The front line cats will determine the available regular attacks.
Back Line[edit]
The back line cats will determine the available regular attacks. Switching to using a back line skill will also trigger a Valor Meo-ant that adds another effect to the attack and swap front line and back line. Swapping takes place before the attack and isn't tied to speed.
Tips
- It may be beneficial to place stronger cat in back line instead of front line, and start with using back line attack. This way, you get to apply Valor Meo-ant at the beginning of the battle.
- Choose a cat of each attack type to adapt to enemies easier.
- When farming for levels, you can use Leader position for mid-to-high leveling and front line position for low-to-mid leveling, while placing strongest cat in back line (granted, team can endure the damage dealt by the enemies this way).
Cat Levels[edit]
Your cats participating in the battle earn experience after winning, capping at level 50. Any combatants that are at a lower level than the opposing team will get bonus EXP. Every 5th level, the cat's rank increases and their troop count expands by 1, which significantly increases the total HP of your fighting squad.
Also, at level 10 a cat's normal attack has an additional effect added; at levels 20 and 30 the damage it deals also increases significantly.
Your squad's stats will also improve based on the total level in your CAT-alog, so there is great benefit to raising everyone you've registered, even after your mainstays have hit the level cap.
Special Attack[edit]
As you deal damage over the fight, the special gauge in the top-right corner of the screen builds up. Once it's full, tapping the button will unleash a special attack without using up your turn. The cat assigned as the leader only influences damage done by the special attack.
Special Attack does:
- get affected by Leader's level;
- get affected by attack/defense buffs/debuffs;
- count as a turn for effects;
- get filled by attack skills (1/6 of gauge).
Special Attack does not:
- get affected by Front/Back line cats' levels;
- get affected by speed;
- trigger regeneration;
- get filled by support skills (unless stated otherwise, e.g. Hibernate);
- regain a certain percentage after the fight like Another Force.
Tips
- As Special Attack counts as a turn for effects, it can be useful under certain circumstances (e.g. removing opponents' buffs/your debuffs before a strong attack).
- As it also doesn't trigger regeneration, it can be used to prevent opponent from healing.
- This effect can be used to minimize harm done by Hibernate's defense debuff. An example: use Hibernate when you have gauge at least half-full, use it when enemy uses a support skill as well to avoid damage. Then use Special Attack immediately to remove debuff.
- While Special Attack can be used this way to your advantage, do not forget that it removes a turn from effect advantageous for you as well.
- If you don't plan to use Special Attack to deal with buffs/debuffs, use it immediately, unless your opponent can restore their health to full.
Tactics[edit]
In addition to your two regular attacks, you can pick from one of many "tactics" – a set of two to five moves that take up the third move slot. The set is always shuffled before it is loaded at the start of the battle, and once all components are exhausted the set is reshuffled before it is replaced. New tactics can be earned by completing certain fights throughout the colony or found in the field.
Usually, attack skills in tactics have additional effects (stronger and/or long-lasting buffs/debuffs, speed-dependence, increased power) and some tactics may include support skills that can heal, buff or have special effects.
Predictions[edit]
The top-left corner of the screen displays the enemy action queue. You can only see the next action at first, but as you complete more fights in the colony the action queue expands to a maximum of five moves. Use this to check what's coming up and plan your moves accordingly.

Score Room[edit]
After accessing the central elevator, the lower left exit will let you enter a Score Room, which displays cat symbols and is used to unlock doors guarded by a grid lock. To know the password, read the grid on the door from top to bottom, noting the position of the blue cat symbols in each row. At the Score Room, tap the bottom of the screen and select the option to input the 4-Paw Password, and match the password you've learned. A successful password input will open the door, yielding loot like Cat Materials and a Cat Lover Grasta. Certain notes are missing at first -- you will need to find the colored Paw-shaped Part key items in order to expand the range of notes you can play to open all doors.
After completing the main quest, you will unlock the ability to fight the superbosses - they're the cats that are found in the locked rooms, and are now awake with a flaring red aura. They are far more dangerous than any other cat opponent, and may need multiple attempts and a good draw to beat. Your reward for beating them is Awards and Chronos Stones.
Combinations to unlock the Cat Superbosses:
Unlocking Flare Witch[edit]
After you've completed "Dance the Paw-Rondo!", bring Bivette to the crash site as part of your human party after completing her first two character quests. Progression of the quest will involve taking control of cat form Bivette as your unchangeable cat leader and fighting tougher opponents than what you've faced during your first foray into the colony. Rewards are given as cat Bivette levels up, totaling 30 Flare Witch Psalms required for her upgrade and three Flare Witch Proofs as her personal Grasta.
Cat Bivette cannot be registered into your CAT-alog, nor will she be playable if you're playing as Varuo in the Spurr-ace Colony. If you finish her sidequest before pushing her cat form to level 50, you can always re-enter the crash site while controlling your human party, which lets you control cat Bivette again.
Chaos Crystals[edit]
Similar to the Chaos Drops in the hidden area in the Moonlight Forest, there is another hidden Cat-accessible place in the Charol Plains with a pair of imperiled gents requiring your aid who will reward you with items for 50 Chaos Crystals each listed below. (950 Total)
